Lost in Translation
The second that redheaded singer plopped her ass down next to Bill Murray I just KNEW what was gonna happen. I still can't believe what happened.

Bertolucci
The Dreamers. Hmm.. after reading Peter Travers review of said movie I so totally want to see it. That and its from the guy that made The Last Emperor and Little Buddha. What's that you say? Boobies and sex? AND Bertolucci??? Indeed sir.
Note: The prospect of nudity and sexually explicit behavior in a movie does little to entice me these days. I say 'these days' because I would be a liar if I didn't say it enticed me when I was a wee lad. Shoot, the only reason I saw White Men Can't Jump was because of Rosie Perez breast. That was in 5th grade mind you, but the point still stands. I mean if gratuituse sex and nipples made a movie then how come Showgirls and Striptease weren't any good? Eh?
P.S. Niv, Dad says thank you.

This is totally unrelated to anything celluloid related, but goldarn, Nick, you sure do look like your dad in that picture.

Boy do I need to see this movie
Actually, 'Boy does Blockbuster need to get more copies of this movie'. I have been thwarted. I cannot get a hold of a copy of this movie for my viewing pleasure. Because, Lake Jackson, TX Blockbuster is a dirty dirty whore! All copies of Lost in Translation are currently unavailable. Phfffah! Maybe when I go back on Thursday.
Oh, well. Currently on tap are American Splendor and whatever tickles my fancy.
Versus. Yeah verily, do I dig this movie. Japanese cinema has been kicking my ass as of late. the DOA Trilogy, Battle Royale, even the old stuff from Kurosawa and Uzo. Makes me glad to have no social life. Facilitates movie time much nicer that way(this is by ways of being a joke). Also, I am glad for the recent glut of crap at cinemas right now. That too facilitates at home movie watching(this is by ways of NOT being a joke).

I concur with Alison.
In fact, I'd have absolutely no problem if we were to turn this blog into "The Lost in Translation Forum of All Encompassing Adoration" and just said one thing we absolutely loved about the movie per day. I figure that'd last us at least until summer or so.

I like me the Bill Murray.
Okay, Lost in Translation; let's talk about it.
It was good.
I liked it.
It was amazingly subtle, seamless and natural to the point that it almost seemed entirely improv.
Bill Murray has more talent than he will ever be given credit for.
Scarlet Johannsen has a little bit of a tummy, and that's sexy.
I cried at the end, partially because, well, it was over, and that made me lonely and sad.
I really, really liked it.
Movie reviews are so much easier when none of the thoughts have to gel together.
I also saw American Splendor, which is one of the more creative movies I've ever seen, especially when you consider that, though the movie was both true and rather entertaining, Harvey Pekar's life is pretty damn dull. It also made me want to see the movie Crumb with a fucking passion.
Oh yeah, and then there's Versus, which is Japanese, incredulously insane, and incomparably fun. Alison, you'd probably dig it, and I know that the big V would get a kick out of it. Zombies, guns, swords, and a heroine who gets punched in the head a lot. Yayzors.
Other than movies, Air's new CD Talkie Walkie is fuckin' pants.
